Salinello Gorges Nature Reserve
Where rock meets legend, a canyon in the heart of Abruzzo
Nestled between the Monti Gemelli (Twin Mountains), on the border between Abruzzo and Marche, the Salinello Gorges offer one of the most breathtaking and impressive natural landscapes in the region. Over the millennia, the force of the river has carved a deep gorge among imposing rock walls rising more than 200 metres, creating a wild and evocative canyon where nature, history and spirituality blend together.
Within the nature reserve, well-marked paths wind through holm oak forests, hidden caves and viewpoints, offering experiences suitable for all hikers, families, nature and archaeology lovers.
Along the way, you will come across ancient hermitages carved into the rock, like the Hermitage of Sant'Angelo, alongside prehistoric caves and remains of past civilisations that turn every step into a journey through time.
But the beauty of the Gorge is not only geological. This is a place steeped in legend: Hercules is said to have fought the giants here, leaving an indelible mark in the stone as evidence of his mythical battle.
The Salinello Gorge offers a rich and enthralling experience: unspoilt landscapes, mythical charm, profound silence and breathtaking views. A perfect destination to slow down, breathe deeply and be amazed in the true and wild heart of Abruzzo.
